MUSIC GENRE REARCH

Rock music is a genre of popular music that was originated as 'Rock and Roll' in United States in the 1950's and developed into a different range of styles in the 1960's in the UK and US. Rock music influenced a number of sub genres, these are:
- Garage rock
- Pop rock
- Blues rock
- Folk rock
- Jazz rock
- Christian rock
- Punk rock
- Indie rock
- Rap rock
and much more.
Key artist/bands that have a big profile in the Rock music genre are the Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Paramore. This is because these bands are currently making new singles and albums.

'KERRANG!' is one of the most common magazine that covers the genre Rock music, they have many competitors, for example, 'Classic Rock', this is a magazine about the latest news on bands that were as famous as the bands in the 21st century. Kerrang covers the sub genre of heavy metal and classic rock is a British magazine covers the sub genre of classic rock.

Planet Rock Logo.jpgCross media for the genre rock is a radio station that is called 'Planet Rock', they are a radio station that covers the latest news on bands and other rock related stuff, they also sell tickets for concerts of well known bands, they have a 'playlist search' to find out what the music single or album they have recently played on their station, where they can either download or purchase their album and finally have a section where people can purchase merchandise.

MUSIC MAGAZINE CASE STUDY

MOOD BOARD - ROCK MUSIC

This is a mood board that is related to the genre of Rock, on this mood board there is many images that is connected to the genre, there is images of rock bands, for example, Three Days Grace, Thousand Foot Krutch and You Me At Six. There are also images of the main music magazines that have people from rock bands, on KERRANG! there is Haley Williams from the band Paramore and on Rolling Stones there is Dave Grohl from the band Foo Fighters. Finally there is a poser with the words 'KEEP CALM AND LISTEN TO ROCK MUSIC' , a guitar pick with the work 'Rock' and as the background, it is a guitar that is on 'fire'.

MUSIC MAGAZINE - PLANNING SHEET

What genre/s of music will your magazine cover?
- The genre of music that i will use on the magazine is Rock/ Metal Rock.

Who is the target audience? How old are they? Where do they live? What are their interests?
- The target audience  is young adults, that are between the age of 15 to 20 years old, their interests are either rebelling against society or about teenage lifestyle.

What is the name of your magazine? Why? Connotations?
- The name of the magazine would be called 'STRINGZ' because it related to the genre and the main instrument for a rock band is the guitar and it has many strings.

What will your masthead look like? Do you have any ideas for fonts?
- The masthead will be bold and will have a unique font.

What will be the focal image for your front cover and why?
- The focus on the front cover is a well known band or a band that has recently done something because the target audience might want to know what they have recently done.

What photography will be required? Give details of shot type, angle and composition
- The type of shot taken is a mid-long shot, so we can see above the knees of the model and the angle it will be taken at is a low angle.

What mise-en-scene will be required? Location? Clothing? Make up? Lighting? Use of colour?
- The location would be in a music studio, the clothing that will be on the model will be related to the genre of the magazine, there will be low lighting in the studio, will have dark colours and the props used will be the music equipment the band or singer uses.

What would be your sell lines? How will you entice your target audience?
- The sell lines will be connected to latest news about latest bands or singers, another one would be about an interview with a band or singer and a list of the greatest hits.

What items and feature articles would you need on your contents page?
- Items that i will use on my contents page is the equipment used by the band, microphone, guitar, drums, etc.

What is the focus of your double page spread? Interview? Feature? Reviews? Etc.
- The main focus will about the recent interview with a band or singer or the main focus would be about the reviews that the band or singer has received. 

What photography will be required for the double page spread?
- There will be a few photos on the double page spread, it will be of a band or singer and a story about the person.

ANGELS FRONT COVER AND CONTENTS ANALYSIS

 This is a magazine about the latest news in St. Angelas School magazine, the first thing we notice is the Masthead, it is the main 'attraction' in the magazine, the word 'angels' is a word that is related to the schools name 'St Angelas', the colour of this magazine very colourful and can attract people because of the bright colours. It is a ver plain magazine when it comes to information because it only has a masthead, a headline, a banner, a sub-heading and one sell line, they could make it more interesting by adding more sell lines and a bigger font size. The headline is related to the main image because the word 'PE', explains that they need to do something sporty, they are holding a volleyball and what makes it more like a school magazine is that they are in front of the 'St Angelas' logo. This magazine is aimed at girls between the ages of 11-16 because they talk about famous young people or people that thye may listen to.

This contents page has the same colours as the front cover, the colour scheme is bright and colourful, which means that they want to attract people and make they buy the magazine, they also attract the customers by giving pictures of people that they may have seen or may know, they would like to show their friends. The contents does not contain the logo of the magazine but has the word 'ANGELS', they also include the word 'contents'. This magazine also includes information that girls would find interesting, for example, fashion, features of a girls magazine and people in the school of 'St Angelas'.
